7-Colour Studies in 52 x 24 Diagonal Stitches
2020
Pearl cotton thread, Aida cloth
21 x 15 cm each
These abstract embroidery studies are gradients constructed out of diagonal stitches of pearl cotton thread. A meditation on the passage of time during the COVID-19 pandemic, its form plays with numbers associated with units of time – 7 colours for the 7 days of the week, 52 rows of stitches for 52 weeks in a year, and 24 columns of stitches for 24 hours in a day – systems of measurement that feel increasingly nebulous in a time of isolation.]
These pieces were sold during Pride Month 2020 to raise funds for raise funds for The T Project, Singapore’s first and only social service for the transgender community, and Oogachaga, a community-based, non-profit professional organisation working with LGBTQ+ individuals, couples, and families in Singapore.
